Judge Katherine Forrest released her ruling on the National Defense Authorization Act today, permanently striking down sections 1021 and 1022. These sections allow for the indefinite detention of American citizens without charge or trial. In her earlier ruling, Judge Katherine Forrest said this measure has a "chilling effect on first amendment rights."

Based on her earlier temporary injunction, this ruling was expected. However, it is not time to celebrate. Based on the Obama Administration's previous action an Appeal or a Motion for Reconsideration will likely be filed. The administration has also not said whether or not it is enforcing the NDAA, according to a letter from lawsuit organizer Tangerine Bolen. The case will then go to an appeals court.

The Obama administration will have approximately 60 days to file either a Motion for Reconsideration or an Appeal. We have posted the "Countdown to Appeal" timer on our website.

If that counter reaches zero, party like there's no tomorrow.

Until then, stay vigilant. If we party too soon, we will lose the fight.
