On Tuesday September 17th 2013, the Mayor and City Council of Coos Bay, Oregon unanimously voted down a resolution not only condemning, but committing city officials to prevent, the possibility of indefinite military detention without trial (on mere suspicion of terrorist affiliations) opened up for Coos Bay residents by the federal government’s passage of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act.
Passage of this resolution will go a long way to restoring the protections of the rights of the people of Albany, NY and, through the example it will create, the citizens and non-citizen residents of every municipality in the United States of America.
It’s a cliché by now, but not enough people yet understand it: to these governments, informing the public is “aiding the enemy.” We the People – we the Enemy – need to begin to take this seriously while there’s still anyone willing to take the risk of aiding us.
Allowing our government to classify votes is a danger to our culture, to our freedom, and to Americans as a whole. It sets the stage to have other issues declared classified.
A terrorist is not one particular group of people in the government’s eyes. It is any person or group of people that will not sit idly by and bow their heads as freedom is ripped away.
